Launch Base in Tsukuba
Tsukuba Information Center started to operate in 1983 as a facility to offer information about Tsukuba Science City, a city in Ibaraki Prefecture where national research and educational institutes and high-tech companies are concentrated.
It is equipped with information service devices such as a triple-facade introductory video player, an information retrieval system for information on individual research institutes, showcases, panels, and models, serving as a starting point for visitors to Tsukuba Science City from home and abroad.
The Ibaraki Prefectural Government Tsukuba Office was established inside the Tsukuba Information Center in 1989 and the Ibaraki International Association Tsukuba Office in 1997 on the same property. The center offers information on Ibaraki Prefecture as well as Tsukuba Science City and hosts an ‘International Exchange Room’, which is composed of Japanese, ikebana, and chanoyu classes, plus other cultural exchange programs, thus giving both Japanese and foreign residents opportunities to meet each other and facilitate international understanding.
