Surrounding
Suburban District DEVELOPMENT PLAN OF THE SURROUNDING SUBURBAN DISTRICT
The development of TSC is proceeding and is divided into two areas called the
Research and Education District and the Surrounding Suburban District. Based on
the Tsukuba Science City Construction Act, the basic concepts for the "Surrounding
Suburban District Development Plan" established by Ibaraki Pref. in Aug. 1981
are: - The peripheral area is to be developed as a city with a rustic environment
while maintaining the integrity of the Science City and a balance with the Research
and Education District.
- To promote the relocation of research and educational
institutions as well as industries into the areas, in order to help further the
growth of TSC.
- To maintain a wholesome natural environment and promote suburban
agriculture.
To accomplish these aim, Tokodai,Tsukuba Nothern and Tsukuba Western
Buisiness and Tsukuba Research Park Harare, and industrial parks of Toyosato,Oho and Sakura were
completed. Many laboratories and factories accompanying the high-technology industries
were built, and activities have been developed hand in hand with national research
institutions. Presently, with the steady progress in the construction
of comprehensive transportation systems such as Tsukuba Express Line which will
directly link central Tokyo with Tsukuba Science City, and the Metropolitan Inter-city
Expressway which will ring the Tokyo area at a 50 kilometer radius, the hopes
for the potential of this area are increasing in leaps and bounds. In order to
account for these new conditions, Ibaraki Prefecture revised its Surrounding Development
Area Construction Plan in April of 1998. Since one of the basic aims of the
revised plan is "promotion of planned urban development and a comprehensive transportation
system", 6 areas (Katsuragi, Kayamaru, Shimana/Fukudatsubo, Kamikawarazaki/ Nakanishi
and Nakane/ Kondadai) or about 1500 hectares along Tsukuba Express Line route
are being newly developed in order to assist the growth of total communities based
around high quality housing facilities. |
