WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM
Up to 100,000 tons of water per day for work and living at institutions and homes in the Research and Education District is provided by Ibaraki Pref. and distributed by Chikunan Water Corp. Most of the water is supplied from Lake Kasumigaura, purified at a plant in Tsuchiura, sent via 11km pipe line to a local reservoir, and distributed to the whole area.

SEWAGE SYSTEM
A parallel flow system has been adopted which handles rain water and sewage water separately. The sewage from 12 handling zones in the Research and Education District is sent via public sewage pipes and the main pipeline of regional system to a processing station in Tone-machi for discharge into the Tone River. Rain water is collected in public drainage networks, and discharged into local rivers via the city drainage conduits.
