Research and Education District
PARKS and WALKWAYS

There are 93 parks and green areas in the Research and Education District with a total area of 100ha, i.e. 10m2 per person of projected city population, or 15% of the area of residential district; 70% when the green areas inside housing units are included. Each park and green area has its own character depending on the location and purpose, and is favored spots for rest, recreation and sports of residents and people from nearby towns.

DOHO PARK
The largest park in the city has a solar-power heated swimming pool, a gym and sports facilities around Doho pond. (area: 19.8ha)

AKATSUKA PARK
Located in the southern end of Tsukuba Koen Dori.A pleasant park for strolls among a variety of trees with changing appearance in each season. (area: 8.6ha)

 
NINOMIYA PARK
A favored park for outdoor sports facilities and a swimming pool. A 30m high clock tower is the landmark of the park. (area: 4ha)

This park with green grass, a pond and an old farm house is located among other cultural facilities in the City Center Zone. (area: 3.8ha)

 
WALKWAYS
A network of paths for pedestrians and cyclists, 48km in total length, reaches all corners of the Research and Education District. One of those paths, Tsukuba Koen Dori (8 to 20m wide) cuts through the city from north to south, and urban facilities, parks and squares of different sizes are built along this path. Each of the Residential Zone also has pedestrian and cyclists' paths as a spine needed for everyday life such as going to work , or school and for shopping.
