HOUSING There are 5,349 governmental housing
units, 2,829 public housing units and private homed in this city.UD
provides 1,704 units of public housing (including mid or high-rise
housing) at Tsukuba-Sakura, Tsukuba-Ninomiya housing complex and
homes in the Ninomiya area. The next task is to increase the supply
of housing on private building lots prepared under a land readjustment
project

PEOPLE
AND LIFE As of October 2005, 33 years after
the first arrivals from Tokyo in 1972, the population of Science City stood at
200,381. During this time, newcomers' involvement in local events, such as festivals,
and communications between new and old residents have increased. Foreign visitors
too, have actively participated in many city events. As of October 2005, there are
7,292 residents who came from abroad to study or conduct research in Tsukuba. Thus,
a unique community, only possible in Tsukuba, is emerging.
